For almost a year now he has been diligently preparing for this multifaceted outreach centered in Hawassa / Awassa in the Southern region of Ethiopia, to which he graciously invited and is sponsoring Stan Cottrell and the GGFR – The Run for the Orphans.

Haile Tefera with his wife, Tsedale, and Daughters Follow Me on Pinterest A graduate of Addis Ababa University where he was an outstanding soccer player, Haile lived in the United States from 1997 to 2008 where he operated two different businesses in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  In 2008, he returned to Ethiopia to start his ministries.  He is spearheading the beginning of the SLM ministries in Ethiopia along with East Africa Director, Jack Stiles.  Haile is working on construction of a multi-purpose building, medical clinic and Christian school. Although his family remained in Georgia for the children’s schooling, they are returning now to Ethiopia to help open and run the school and help orphans.

The Plight of Ethiopia’s Orphans

Ethiopia, situated in East Africa on a mountainous plateau surrounded by drought-prone lowlands, is both one of the oldest known nations in the world as well as one of the poorest in Africa.  With decades of underdevelopment caused by wars and poverty, plagued by severe drought and famine, the country’s unemployment rate hovers around 35%.

Wars and famine combined with the AIDS epidemic have caused a surge in orphans and street children in need.  In fact, Ethiopia has one of the largest populations of orphans in the world, with nearly 13 per cent of children throughout the country missing one or both parents. This means more than 4 million orphaned children struggle to survive every day, many of whom have lost their parents to Africa’s HIV/AIDS outbreak.

The Reason Stan Cottrell Runs

Yes, there are laudable organizations and devoted Christian groups seeking to serve this need, such as those directly connected to Haile. But they need our help, for the need is great!

That’s the reason Stan runs… the critical mission of The Great Global Friendship Run… to showcase for the world the needs, give visibility to work at orphanages around the run venues, raise funds for these children, and to deliver direct aid to the orphaned and abandoned children through pre-vetted, approved organizations and ministries who are efficiently getting the money directly to the specific projects and purposes most needed for the children!

Thank You, Haile, Joining Us In Bringing Hope For Orphans

So it is with deep gratitude that we thank Haile Tefera, effective communicator and organizer and our new dear friend, for his tireless efforts.  We thank him for co-hosting with Jerry Spencer Ministries all the events, opening doors and coordinating Stan’s two weeks of friendship encounters and runs in beautiful Ethiopia.  They will be powerful.

And for those of us who cannot be there in person with Haile, Jerry and Stan, we await with abated breath the awesome, unique film footage award-winning filmmaker, Mickey Grant, will be producing during the Ethiopia Run!
